Better known as the fastest sport on skates, athletes sprint down an ice track built with berms, jumps, drops, and wall rides. While the goal is to get to the bottom as fast as possible, the real battle is skating in tight quarters with three others. Elbow to elbow, confined by walls either side, skaters tackle features and obstacles at speeds of more than 40mph (60km/h). This crazy mix of hockey, ski, and snowboard cross attracts athletes from all over the globe. The extreme action infused race drew massive crowds to the Minnesota capitol, Saint Paul in 2017. Over 100,000 spectators, fought the cold to watch this action packed event. Watch the full episode here.

As an assignment from Go Radio MN, I was tasked with photographing the insanity of this massive event.
